"Simón del Desierto:" Luis Buñuel was Ahead of His Time

Hey guys! So, today I want to talk about the short film "Simon of the Desert" (or, Simón del Desierto as it's titled in Spanish). I want to give a brief background of the film, including the plan for the project versus the finished product, and then I want to analyze the main themes. YouTube has allowed an upload of the film if you'd like to view it. All of the opinions in this post are my own. Spoilers ahead. Let's Get Into the Background. According to Mexican actor Silvia Pinal who features as one of the two main leads, the film began as a project meant to have three parts, each handled by a different director. "Knight Stalker" Backstory

TRIGGER WARNING: Mentions of Serial Killing and PTSD. Nothing graphic in this post. Thank you for joining me in this blogging journey. This post covers (in a pretty spoiler-free way) my published work, the short-story entitled "Knight Stalker: A Short Story in Three Parts," This litfic short story is inspired by the Luis Buñuel film "Simon of the Desert," which I covered in the previous post . As well as a particularly strange case in history of a serial killer saying some alarmingly true things about society's perception of evil.  Stay with me ;) It's got meta elements. Although I don't want to spoon-feed any interpretations, the piece reflects the sadness and the madness of violence on a micro scale as well as a macro one. It is certainly a choice to introduce myself with a dark piece. But, I won't have it any other way. L and Light from "Death Note,"  designs by Takeshi Obata, background by me. Twenty years later and Death Note (originally conceived by Tsugumi Ōba and Takeshi Obata) was made into a  musical,  not only  in Japanese  in 2015 and performed in Tokyo, Taiwan, Seoul, Moscow and Rio, but also  in English  last year performing on London's West End. Will it come to the US? Wikipedia says it's coming to Texas.  Texas!? Given my publishing "Knight Stalker" deconstructing a crazed killer and his bond with a mischievous devil, and given almost twenty-one years of Desu Nōto, I'll address some themes within this much-adapted series which are relevant today.
